Travel: New York City (2010)

Five My Viewpoint Youth Photography Leaders and three adults spent two weeks exploring the photography world of New York City.
The purpose of this trip was to experience the many ways photography is used, to envision life as a professional photographer, and to begin thinking about how we want to exhibit our work.
We met with:
Bell Curves (college counseling service)
Ben Lowy
Curators at the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian
Editors at PDN (Photo District News)
James Casebere
James Estrin and Josh Haner at the NY Times Lens Blog
Lorna Simpson
Marvi Lacar
The Open Society Institute (OSI)
We visited The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA)
We used the darkrooms and digital labs at the International Center of Photography
We were interviewed by other teenagers enrolled in a blogging class throught the New York Times. The article is online here.
We also visited the ocean
We had a silent auction fundraiser of work by established and emerging artists (including our Youth Photography Leaders) at VII Gallery.
Special thanks to Lorna Simpson, Jim Casebere, Marvi Lacar and Ben Lowy for all your support!
